In response to the extremely cold weather coming into the South Okanagan tonight, PIB has decided to open the PIB Community Hall for our most vulnerable members, starting tonight Wednesday January 10, 2024 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm

There will be toques, gloves, socks available for those that need it, while the supplies last.We will also be accepting donations of new warm clothing

Please be advised that extreme heat is forecast for Penticton and surrounding areas. Daytime temperatures are expected to climb within the range of 35 to 39 degrees Celsius, accompanied by overnight lows approximately near 18 degrees Celsius. Extreme heat affects everyone.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
– Avoid unnecessary travel or exposure outdoors.
– Watch for signs of heatstroke.
– Stay hydrated.
– PIB will distribute notices on Social Media, PIB Website and the PIB App on how to keep yourself safe during the extreme heat forecast.
