First Nations Water Settlement Specified Injuries Update
The next stage of this matter, notably the Specified Injuries claims (for medical conditions/harms) and upcoming compensation payments to be issued to approved Individual Class Members. Key highlights include:
• Specified Injuries compensation payments are expected to begin in late 2026.
• Nearly 70,000 Class members submitted Specified Injuries claims, with many claiming more than one harm each, representing approximately 150,000 individual Harms claimed.
• Approximately half of all Specified Injuries claims have now been processed, and more than 95% of those assessed have been approved.
• Eligible Specified Injury claimants will receive a proportional share of the fixed $50 million Specified Injuries Compensation Fund, together with interest earned and any surplus funds remaining after all Individual Damages claims have been paid.
With respect to First Stage – Individual claims, most of these claims have been processed and paid. However, there are still some claims with outstanding information required before the Administrator can assess eligibility. They are encouraging Claimants to submit any missing information as soon as possible.
